David Sánchez Beltrán (Cuernavaca, Mexico, 1989) received a Bachelor’s Degree in Visual Arts from the Centro Morelense de las Artes (CMA; Morelos Center for the Arts) in 2013. His work has been exhibited collectively in Mexico and in the US. His work spans across different mediums including drawing, painting, high temperature ceramic and jewelry and he also has extensive experience as a youth art instructor. David’s most recent work is defined by a constant search for identity, the meaning of belonging, and reviewing his own familial history is a way of connecting with his origins, his family, and the land. Beltran explores the relationships between the past and the present, notably through the recurring theme of his work: the characteristic jaguar mask taken from the Danza de los Tecuanes in its version from Xitlala, Guerrero.
