The Just Yesterday series uses iconic pop culture references to put systemic injustices from our recent past into context — injustices that continue to oppress communities of color to this day.
BABY GOT BACK WAS RELEASED CLOSER TO JIM CROW SEGREGATION LAWS THAN TODAY.
Limited run sold exclusively by the WAM Shop.
Sir Mix-A-Lot’s number-one hit single “Baby Got Back” was released on the artist’s “Mack Daddy” album in 1992. And though the iconic Hip Hop song remains part of mainstream pop culture to this day, its release date was actually closer to the end of Jim Crow segregation laws in 1965 than it is to today.
